Britax Infant Car Seat Recall: Models and the Free Kit

Model numbers by product, the free kit, and what to ask before buying a used seat.

The Britax infant car seat recall, numbered 26C-006 by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), covers certain B-Safe and Endeavours seats. Six products are named, all made between August 17, 2020 and May 16, 2023. Your seat is included when its model number, printed on the label under the seat cover, appears in the list below and its manufacture date falls in that window. Until the free kit is installed, do not lift the seat by its carry handle, and request the kit at crshubrecall.com or by calling 1-888-427-4829. At New Parent Picks, we are an independent buying-guide site that does not test seats, so we relay what Britax and NHTSA publish.

How to Check Whether Your Britax Seat Is Recalled

Britax says the model number is on the label under the seat cover. Consumer Reports says the white label is usually on the back or underside of the shell. Check both places before concluding a seat has no label.

Britax’s recall site, crshubrecall.com, has a lookup that checks the model number and manufacture date against the list.

Consumer Reports lists the Gen2 model as E1C802C, while Britax’s notice prints E1C802. If your label differs from the Britax list by a trailing letter, use the lookup at www.crshubrecall.com to match it.

This page covers only the models named in the notice.

What to Do Until the Kit Arrives

Britax says consumers may keep using the seat when it is properly secured in a motor vehicle or properly attached to a compatible stroller. This page does not list which strollers are compatible.

Until the remedy kit is installed, do not lift or carry the seat by the carry handle. Lift or carry it only by its shell. The handle is the part the defect involves: a screw in the carry handle may loosen, and the handle could detach.

How to Get the Free Remedy Kit

The remedy is free of charge. Britax adds two retention clips to the hub mount assembly: Clip A, part M15251800, and Clip B, part M15251900. No tools are required, and no other parts are removed or replaced.

The kit comes with illustrated step-by-step instructions. Britax says installation takes about ten minutes. The kit was available to request as of September 30, 2026, the date on Britax’s notice.

To request the kit online, go to crshubrecall.com. If you cannot request online, call Britax Consumer Services at 1-888-427-4829. If installing the kit is hard, Consumer Services can help by phone.

Consumer Reports says registered owners were to be contacted by October 19, most likely by mail. Owners who are not registered, or who have moved, can register at us.britax.com/support/register-product.

If Britax does not remedy the defect free of charge, owners may complain to NHTSA. The Vehicle Safety Hotline is 1-888-327-4236, and the teletypewriter (TTY) line is 1-800-424-9153. Details are at safercar.gov.

What Went Wrong With the Carry Handle

Britax’s notice says a screw in the carry handle may loosen, and the handle could detach. Britax describes the result as a fall hazard and a risk of injury to the child. Consumer Reports describes the handle as partially detaching.

Consumer Reports reports that 114,660 infant car seats are recalled. It says about 1 percent are expected to have the defect.

Consumer Reports also reports four injuries, and says the recall report calls them minor.

Consumer Reports says none of the recalled seats is currently in production. It also says some were sold as part of travel systems.

Checking a Used or Hand-Me-Down Britax Seat

The steps below are our own checklist. Britax and NHTSA have not published guidance for buying or selling a seat that has not been fixed, so these steps are not an official procedure.

  • Ask the seller for a photo of the label. Compare the model number with the list above and the manufacture date with the window, August 17, 2020 to May 16, 2023.
  • Ask whether the kit was requested and installed. The kit is requested at www.crshubrecall.com or by calling 1-888-427-4829.
  • Ask the seller to give the kit to you, or to tell Britax who the new owner is.
  • Pass on a seat with no label, because a seat without one cannot be compared with the list.
  • Walk away from a seat with an unknown history.

Read the expiration date printed on the seat’s label and in the manual, because this page does not give expiry rules.

A seller who no longer owns the seat and has the current owner’s contact information can email Bsafecampaign26@britax.com. Without that information, the seller can call Consumer Services at 1-888-427-4829.

If the seat does not pass these steps, or you are weighing a different seat, read our best car seat for newborn guide and our convertible vs infant car seat guide.

If You Would Rather Switch Seats

A seat on the list can stay in use under the conditions in Britax’s notice, so switching is optional under the notice. If you want a different seat, start with our best car seat for newborn guide or our best convertible car seat guide. For a separate infant seat recall from another brand, see our Evenflo Revolve180 LiteMax NXT recall guide.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I tell if my Britax infant car seat is recalled?

Find the model number on the white label. Britax says it is under the seat cover, and Consumer Reports says the label is usually on the back or underside of the shell. A seat whose model number is on the list and whose manufacture date falls between August 17, 2020 and May 16, 2023 is in the recall. Britax’s lookup at www.crshubrecall.com checks both numbers.

Can I still use my Britax B-Safe while I wait for the kit?

Britax says consumers may keep using the seat when it is properly secured in a motor vehicle or properly attached to a compatible stroller. Until the kit is installed, lift or carry the seat only by its shell, not the carry handle. This page does not list which strollers are compatible.

Is the Britax recall free to fix?

Yes. Britax says the remedy is free of charge. The kit adds two retention clips to the hub mount assembly, and no tools are required. The kit was available to request as of September 30, 2026. Britax says installation takes about ten minutes.

Can I buy or sell a recalled Britax seat?

Britax and NHTSA have not published guidance for buying or selling a seat that has not been fixed. If you are the seller and no longer own the seat, email the current owner’s contact information to Bsafecampaign26@britax.com. If you do not have that information, call Consumer Services at 1-888-427-4829. Buyers can use the checklist in the used seat section above.

What if I bought my Britax seat secondhand?

Start with the label. Compare the model number and manufacture date with the list and the window above, then ask the seller whether the kit was requested and installed. A seat with no label cannot be compared with the list, so walk away from it. If you are now the owner and the seat is not registered, Consumer Reports says unregistered or moved owners can register at us.britax.com/support/register-product. You can request the kit yourself at www.crshubrecall.com.
